About Me

If you are looking for someone to take on your next assignment, story, or project, I have more than ten years experience with writing, editing, cultural criticsm, and research, in subject areas ranging from men and women's health (I worked for Rodale twice) to art, photography, architecture, music, film, travel, and food. I am available for editing, proofreading, research, and writing projects. Please contact me if you need someone who is easy to work with, thorough, quick, and reliable.

As a writer, critic, and part-time teacher, I am interested in the ways in which culture gives us opportunities to learn about ourselves, ask important questions, and examine our roles as individuals and members of a larger community. Because of my background in journalism, I am also committed to promoting cultural, visual, information and technological literacy in the classroom. In all of my writing, however, I am guided by a deep curiosity, a healthy skepticism, and a desire to look at the bigger picture.

I am currently working on a two-volume encyclopedia for Greenwood Press that will be published in 2008 called, if I remember correctly, Icons of Popular Music: 24 Women Who Rock.

I went to Douglass College at Rutgers University and double majored in Journalism/Mass Media and American Studies, with a B.A. in both. In 2000, I received an M.A. in journalism from New York University, with a concentration in cultural reporting and criticism.
